This statutory corporation supplies water and sewerage services to a large population in regional Victoria
With an increasingly mobile workforce, the corporation wanted to provide a stable environment to improve end user productivity, and provide access to data and applications from any device, anywhere on any network connection. This was particularly important to staff who spent most of their time away from the office, on the road.
Ensyst was selected for this project due to its status as a Gold Citrix partner and its proven capabilities and experience to deliver the overall solution leveraging Citrix XenApp, Machine Creation Services and NetScaler.
The client decided to upgrade to the latest version of Citrix XenApp to enable the virtual delivery of applications to their end users. The client had been using Citrix XenApp for 6 years for remote users to achieve better performance on low bandwidth connections so moving to the latest version was expected to deliver further benefits.
Following a detailed heath check and analysis of the Citrix XenApp 6.5 farm, Ensyst designed and implemented a replacement Citrix XenApp solution that delivered a highly scalable Citrix XenApp environment across two data centres in Active/Active mode.
With transition to the new platform, the client realised its mobility goals. Not only was the end-user experience greatly improved through enhancements in the HDX protocol, but for IT administrators, technical routines like updating applications and patches where dramatically streamlined utilising Machine Creation Services.
Deployment of XenApp 7.7 also opened up further opportunities, not only for the remote and mobile workforce but also for users located in head office. One of the core capabilities of Citrix XenApp is its ability to deliver applications from a central location to both branches and head office users with the same consistent experience. In future, the client has the ability to use the same platform for some of crucial line of business applications to provide more flexibility to end users and furthermore reduce the overall IT effort in regard to application updates and deployments.
