Operations had traditionally been split between the Northern Territory and Singapore, however a change in market regulatory conditions meant that the organisation chose to migrate the environment to Australia.
A complete lift and shift of the existing solution and infrastructure was required, and Optus was positioned well to manage this transformation.
The migration of their Microsoft Azure IaaS environment involved:
- Production in Azure Sydney
- Disaster Recovery function in Azure Melbourne
- Configuration of Barracuda’s firewalls in each site.
- Configuration of Azure Site Recover between Sydney and Melbourne
- Test Failover from Melbourne to Sydney.
The company is now able to manage and monitor its infrastructure more effectively within Australia, improving performance and latency with its operations, providing greater control and manageability.
It has also been able to decommission servers and services that are currently in Darwin and Singapore, which also freed up their IT staff to work on other priorities.
