This large NSW Government agency has more than 6,000 staff in locations throughout the state.

The agency embarked on a project to update their desktop SOE and supporting backend infrastructure with the aim of reducing overall operating costs, improving reliability and maximizing the ability of IT to achieve business outcomes.

Ensyst was selected because of extensive experience in desktop SOE design, development and deployment as well as a unique approach to the project.

Solution

Focusing as much on end-user adoption and change management as it did on the technology, Ensyst’ approach ensured users would be productive from day 1.

Ensyst delivered an upgrade from the legacy SOE to Windows 7.  The approach comprised both Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager and the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit to deliver a flexible, managed, Windows 7 installation across the environment.

The SOE design provided the agency with an initial Windows 7 desktop platform, and prepared the environment for additional components in future, without the need to re-deploy or repeat components of the project. Ensyst also undertook a Windows 10 proof of concept to ensure this was incorporated into the build process, providing the client with a future migration platform.

The migration and user change management strategy was designed in conjunction with the client to ensure a seamless migration to the new platform. This approach was further refined, in partnership with the agency, during a pilot at main office sites.  The internal deployment team was then able to complete the migration of regional sites.
